In one of the most beautiful and pure lands of Catalonia, between the Natural Park of the Serra de Montsant and the Prades Mountains, we find The Route of the Refuges, an unforgettable itinerary for all lovers of adventure, nature, history and landscapes; paths that wind through forests, ancient groves of olive trees and vineyards so deeply rooted in mineral remoteness.
We are close to the incomparable Costa Dorada, an emblematic Mediterranean setting where we enjoy the mild and sweet climate that seduced the Roman Empire. From the capital of the region of Baix Camp gateway and access to the natural setting of the Prades Mountains, full of surprising places that convey peace and harmony. It is a magnificent massif that rises majestically between the Conca de Barberà and the basin of the Priorat.
Going into the interior of the Catalan territory, we find the Priorat, The region consists of 23 municipalities, with capital in Falset. It is located at the Northwest limit of the Prelitoral range, which is part of the Serra de Prades which opens up towards the Llaberia mountain range separating the region.
This is where the two denominations of wine originate, which give its name to the territory: the DOQ Priorat and the DO Montsant.
The Natural Park of Montsant, is a mountain of great symbolism in the regions of Tarragona. Its impressive orography, walled with cliffs and rocks of Oligocene conglomerates, shows the footprint of human activity linked to an important natural heritage, which has a high biological diversity. It is an ideal place for activities of nature, hiking, photography, etc.
All the villages that are scattered throughout the territory are interesting as they hide stories and legends. The Route of the Refuges discovers the most beautiful places in the villages; under the foothills of the massif, Cornudella de Montsant, Albarca, the region inland, between the sun and the shade of the mountain, of Muslim origin, Siurana, where we find the Romanesque church. La Mussara, also of Arab origin, currently depopulated and located in the middle of the Prades Mountains. The breath-taking view unfolds south of the Camp de Tarragona, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea or Mont-ral, located in the Alt Camp region, we find it in the western part of the region, on the eastern side of these mountains.
